CAMPBELL - Ernie Campbell of Coronation, Ab. passed away at Coronation Health Care Complex Extended Care Unit, Coronation, Ab. on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at the age of 81 years.

Ernie was born in Parkland, Alberta on February 17, 1921 to Porter and Rosa Campbell.

He went to school in Parkland and on January 10, 1942 married Doris Best.

To this union three children were born, Dianne, Marion and Ross.

Ernie and Doris tried their hands at farming, but it was unsuccessful.

Ernie found work in the oilfield and for many years they followed drilling rigs around Alberta. In 1957 Ernie went to work running a hot oil truck.

He eventually bought his own and started Ernie&Mac226;\'s Hot Oil Dewaxing Ltd. which he ran until his retirement in 1981.

Ernie and Doris spent most of their lives around Red Deer until they moved to Coronation where they resided until Doris passed away in 1998.

Ernie then moved into Assisted Living at the Coronation Hospital.

Ernie broke his hip in 1999 and was moved to the extended care unit where he resided until his death.

Ernie is survived by his children Dianne (Ed) Rye of Fox Creek, Ab., Marion (Arnold) Sandbeck of Paradise Valley, Ab., and Ross (Lucille) Campbell of Red Deer, Ab.; 10 Grandchildren, Debbie (Dale) Kary, Shannon (Delwin) Slemp, David (Melinda) Sandbeck, Brent Sandbeck, Darla (Travis) Jordahl, Amy Campbell and 13 Great Grandchildren; 1 Sister Myrtle Mabey; 2 Sisters in law, Mildred (Al) Armstrong and Hazel Best; 1 brother in law Harold Best as well as numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Ernie were held on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. in the Evangelical Free Church, Coronation, Ab. with Pastor Wade Hammond officiating.

Son in law Ed Rye and granddaughter Darla Jordahl gave a loving tribute in memory of Ernie’s life as well Ed sang the solo “Till The Storm Passes By”.

Barbie Evans played the piano and Margaret Evans played the organ for the congregational hymns “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden” led in song by Bob Hocking.

Honorary pallbearers were the grandsons, Dale Kary, Delwin Slemp, David Sandbeck, Brent Sandbeck, and Travis Jordahl.

Following the funeral service family and friends joined together in the lower hall of the church for a time of refreshments and sharing with the luncheon prepared and served by the Evangelical Church Ladies.

The interment took place in the Red Deer Cemetery at 3:30 P.M. on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 beside his wife Doris officiated by Rev. George McKenzie.

Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made in Ernie’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Coronation Health Care Foundation - Long Term Care Unit and would be appreciated by the family.
