Charlotte Viola Roach (known as Lottie) was born in Port Perry, Ontario in 1898. Her parents were William and Sarah Roach.
In 1906 the family, which now consisted of Lottie, Sadie and Keith and their parents moved west and settled in the Brownfield area.
The first few years they lived in a log house with a sod roof. Later a larger house was built from logs that their father hauled from the Battle River.
Lottie attended Brownfield school which was built in 1910 one and a half miles west of their home.
The Brownfield teachers boarded in the Roachs home for many years.
In 1923 she married Malcolm (Mac) Brown and moved about seven miles south to the Bulwark area. Two children were born to this union, Frances in 1924 and Archie in 1929.
During these years Lottie was actively involved in Bulwark.
Ladies Aid, Brownfield U.C.W. and many other community events.
After her husbands death in 1947 she continued to farm with Archie until he was married to Sheila Merchant; they took over the family farm and Lottie moved into a house in Coronation.
Soon she was involved in the U.C.W., Hospital Aid, volunteering at the library, The Coronation Fair and Music Festival.
In 1983 she moved into an apartment in Windsor Manor where she enjoyed her independence and visiting with long time friends.
After her 100th birthday Lottie moved into Assisted Living where she resided happily until her passing.
Lottie was predeceased by her parents William and Sarah Roach, her husband Malcolm Brown, her sister Sadie and husband John Lindmark, brother Keith and wife Agnes Roach and son in law Tom Forrest.
Lottie is survived by one daughter Frances Forrest, one son Archie and his wife Sheila Brown, six grandchildren: John (Jeanette) Forrest, Darren (Colleen) Brown, Craig (Jill) Brown, Jay Brown, Laurie (Jim) Burchell, Cameron (Candy) Brown; 11 great grandchildren: Lyanne (Owen) Almberg, Sherri (Leland) Creasy, Janey Forrest, Amanda and Adam Brown, Brandon and Daniel Brown, Mackenzie and Joel Burchell, Erin and Dylan Brown; three great great grandchildren: Bailey and Aydon Almberg and Dallas Creasy.
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Lottie Brown were held on Monday, May 20, 2002 in the Trinity United Church, Coronation, Alberta with Rev. Mervyn Penfound officiating.
Granddaughter Laurie Burchell and Great Granddaughter Lyanne Almberg gave loving tributes in memory of their Grandmother.
Mrs. Margaret Merchant played the organ for the congregational hymns Sweet By and By, Softly and Tenderly, Take My Hand Precious Lord and God Be With You Till We Meet Again led in song by the Trinity United Church Choir.
Honorary pallbearers were All of Lotties family and friends.
The active pallbearers were grandsons John Forrest, Jay Brown, Darren Brown, Laurie Burchell, Craig Brown and Cameron Brown. The interment took place in the Coronation Cemetary.
Family and friends then gathered together in the Elks Community Hall for a time of fellowship and refreshments prepared and served by the Trinity United Church Women, the Brownfield United Church Women and the Talbot Homemakers.
