| Schroeder - Sr. Mary Dolores Schroeder passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Womens Hospital after a short illness. Remaining to forever cherish Sr. Dolores memory are her brother, Greg (Mary) Schroeder, sisters, Bernie (Ford) Bergwall, Kay (Leo) Schultz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Greg and Josephine Schroeder, and brother-in-law, Ford Bergall. Dolores was born in Craik, Saskatchewan on October 11, 1930. In 1942 the family moved to the Talbot district. Sr. Dolores attended various schools, ending in Castor, AB where she met Les Filles de la Sagesse (Daughters of Wisdom). She entered the Congregation where she made her first profession on August 2, 1950. She was given the name Sr. Mary Dolores of the Cross. Sr. Dolores made her final vows in 1955 at the Motherhouse in St. Laurent, France. She served as a Counsellor on the Provincial Council of the West. She missioned in the north of Alberta, in Spirit River, Martin River, Grouard, Slake Lake, as well as in Leoville, Sk. After completing the nursing course at Red Deer College in 1980, Sr. Dolores proudly graduated as a R. N. at the age of 50. She nursed in Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital in Castor until she retired in 1995 at age 65. Following her retirement, Sr. Dolores took care of the sick sisters in Red Deer providing health care, support and transportation for the sisters. She also did the accounting for her community. In 2003 she came to Winnipeg for a two-year sabbatical. And then became a permanent resident of Winnipeg. Sr. Dolores lover her apartment, her ministry at Tache Centre and other personal care for the aged. She was also loved by all the people who came in contact with her or worked with her. Prayers were held on Thursday, September 11 at St. Emiles Roman Catholic Church and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on September 12. |
