| Bliesner - Laura Bliesner passed away at Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, Castor, Alberta on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Laura was born at Coronation Alberta on January 24, 1921 and lived in the Fleet district her entire life. She received her schooling at the Kimberly School and later at the Fleet Rural High School. After school she helped on her family farm until she married Bernie Bliesner on December 3, 1942. Laura and Bernie worked for Lauras father, Carl Ekman until they purchased their own farm seven miles south of Fleet, which they owned until their retirement in 1975. They then moved into Castor and Laura resided there until the fall of 1997 when due to a stroke she moved into the Extendicare unit in Castor where she resided until her passing on March 1, 2008. Laura was a hard worker but always had time to enjoy gardening and together with her husband and family enjoyed camping and card playing. Predeceased by her husband Bernie Bliesner, her parents Carl and Thea Ekman, brother-in-law Alex McKenzie, sister and brother-in-law Eileen and Barnie Bunbury, daughter-in-law Ginny Bliesner, sister-in-law and her husband Amelia and Bill Bayford. Laura leaves to mourn her passing: two sons Wayne (John) of Red Deer, Chris (Loretta) of Coronation; one daughter Alice (Bill) Turigan of Ponoka; six grandchildren Tracey Vaile, Craig Bliesner, Tara Alkenbrack, Jason Turigan, Ben Bliesner and Sarah-Lee Turigan and six great grandchildren, Kimberly, Nicole and Michael Vaile and Zoe, Courtney and Ruby Bliesner. Laura is also survived by one sister Ada McKenzie of Fleet, AB and sister-in-law Lucille (Nick) Kroeger of Consort, AB as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Evangelical Missionary Church with Rev. Barbara Zimmerman of Knox United Church officiating. The interment followed in the Castor Municipal Cemetery where Laura was buried beside her late husband Bernie.
