| Baker - Howard Lyle Baker passed away peacefully at Bethany Collegeside, Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the age of 93 years. Howard was born January 15, 1915 in Ohiowa, Nebraska to Roland and Ahda Baker, the third eldest son in a family of 14. He married Evelyn Price in 1946 and had three children, Bryan, Connie and Randy. He taught school for many years, the longest being in Castor and Coronation. He was a town councilman for a number of years in Coronation, and was also a devoted member of both the Legion and Elks clubs there. They retired to Lacombe, Alberta in 1973. Howard enjoyed many hobbies. He loved the outdoors, sports (playing and coaching), hockey and ball, reading and writing poetry. He took pride in gardening and carpentry. Howard also spent five years overseas in the army. He is survived by his three children, Bryan (Louise), Connie (Les) Anderson, Randy (Cindy); eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by seven sisters, Bernice of Castlegar, BC, Ethel of Kamloops, BC, Belva of Rocky Mountain House, AB, Helen (Jack) of Brooks, AB, Edna (Harold) of Ponoka, AB, Avis (Danny) of Raymond, AB, Eunice (Tom) of Cayley, AB; one brother Donald (Janet) of Mapleridge, BC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn in May 2006 after 60 years of marriage. He will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Funeral services were held from Wilsons Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe, AB. on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Castor Cemetery.
