| Coututier - Wilfurd Couturier 1911 - 2007 Wilfurd Couturier passed away peacefully at the age of 96 in the presence of his son, Ken and wife, Rita at the Castor Hospital on October 20, 2007 following many months of declining health at the Paintearth Lodge and one week in the Coronation and Castor hospitals. Wilfurd Joseph Couturier was born in Traverse City, Michigan on July 8, 1911. His parents Julia and William, travelled from the USA with Wilfurd, a sister, and two brothers, and settled in the Hiram, Alberta district where the remainder of the family; three brothers and three sisters were born. All of Wilfurd’s siblings are deceased with the exception of Orpha Wolfert who resides in Hanna. Wilfurd farmed all of his life in the Castor and Coronation areas and two of his favourite pastimes were fishing and taking drives down country roads, and memory lane, with his wife Pearl. Special times to both Wilfurd and Pearl were the vacations and times spent with Ken and Rita. Wilfurd was predeceased by his first wife Alice Madsen of the Coronation area in 1952, and wife Pearl Collier from Castor in 2001. The greatest attribute that Wilfurd afforded life was his unselfishness and putting others ahead of his needs. He demonstrated this daily by being a devoted companion and caregiver to his wife Pearl and also his first wife Alice in their years of poor health. Wilfurd is survived by his son Ken and Rita Collier of Sundre, stepchildren, Doris O’Connor of Wetaskiwin, and Les (Marianne) Collier of Abbotsford B.C. as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks are extended to Dr. Hanton and the staff of both the Coronation and Castor Hospitals for the excellent care that was given to Wilfurd during his final days. Special thank you goes to Sylvia Wold and all of the staff at the Paintearth Lodge for the wonderful home they provided for Wilfurd over the past five years. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Castor Lodge in memory of Wilfurd. A celebration of Wilfurd’s life took place on Wednesday, October 24, at 11 a.m. at the United Church, Castor. Burial took place at the Bulwark Cemetery following a luncheon at Knox United Church by the Knox U.C.W.
