| COUTURIER - Pearl Edna passed away in her home on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at the age of 90 years. Pearl Edna Huff was born in Bulwark, AB on April 18, 1911. Pearl was the second of four children. She married John Collier of Ireland on April 8, 1931 on the Huff Homestead. After 20 years of marriage John passed away on August 26, 1951. Pearl had three children from this marriage, Doris, Les, and Ken. Doris married Pat OConnor and celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 6, 2001. Unfortunately Pat passed away three weeks later on June 19. Doris lives on the family farm near Wetaskiwin. Les Collier and his wife Marianne live in Ft. Langley, B.C. Ken Collier and his wife Rita reside in Calgary. Pearl married Wilfurd Couturier of Coronation, AB on July 8, 1954 and they enjoyed 47 years together. Wilfurd, also 90 years of age was her prime caregiver, which greatly contributed to her quality of life during the later years. Pearl had many hobbies. Among these were ceramics and flower making. She did flower arrangements for many local weddings over the years. For most of her life she enjoyed being a homemaker; canning, baking and gardening filled many hours. As recently as the past Thanksgiving she baked an apple and pumpkin pie. As a pioneer of the area Pearl enjoyed many hours of the familiar country roads with Wilfurd. Another favorite pass time was fishing at Huber Dam and Belkie Pond. Pearl always said she owed so much to all her friends over the years and it was this support that added to her long life. She never tired of recounting the memories, events and dates of the past. Pearl was a member of the Federal Friendship Club and both she and Wilfurd delivered Meals On Wheels in Castor for a period of years. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Predeceased by her parents Luther and ruth Huff, first husband John Collier in 1951, sisters Mable Brovald and Myrtle Atkinson and her brother Pete Huff. Pearl leaves to mourn her passing her husband Wilfurd, sons Ken (Rita) Collier of Calgary, AB, Les (Marianne) Collier of Ft. Langley, B.C., a daughter Doris OConnor of Wetaskiwin, AB as well as four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 7, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in Knox United Church, Castor, AB with Rev. Tom McLaughlin officiating. Cathy Schaffner played the organ for the congregation hymns, Abide With Me, The Old Rugged Cross, and Just A Closer Walk With Thee accompanied by the Knox United Church Choir. The interment will take place in the Bulwark Cemetery at a later date. Following the funeral service family and friends gathered together in the upper hall of Knox United Church for a time of fellowship and sharing with the luncheon prepared and served by the Knox United Church Women. Should friends desire, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital or to a charity of the donors choice and would be appreciated by the family.
