DYKI - Bill (William) was the last child born to Sam and Marie Dyki on August 28, 1928 in Whitkow, Saskatchewan. He died January 31, 2007.
He had eight brothers and sisters.
He lived in North Battleford where he met Eileen Knorr. They were married on August 1955 in Luseland Saskatchewan. Later that year, they moved to Calgary, Alberta and had two sons, Brian and Greg.
In 1965, Bill completed his certification to become an orderly. The following year, Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital offered him the first orderly position for the hospital.
This was the start of Bill’s lifelong love for Castor. The people, the community and his days at the hospital were summed up when he would say, "why would a person live anywhere else?"
In 1971, Bill and Eileen grew their family when Christine was born. Bill was active in the community, managing Greg’s hockey team, hunting in the winter and fishing in the summer.
Bill and his family would spend time every summer at Pine Lake. He was an active member of the Legion and always ensured the hospital staff held the current week’s winning lotto ticket and had an opportunity to participate in hockey and football pools.
After Bill retired in 1993, in the summer he’d be golfing or tending to his huge garden. In the winter, he would enjoy sitting with Eileen, his feet up and cheering for the Edmonton Oilers.
During the day, you’d see him playing cards and sharing coffee and jokes with the boys. Bill also loved his trips to Las Vegas to win the "big one".
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend. He will be remembered and sadly missed by his wife Eileen, his children and grandchildren.
Brian (Joan, Scott, Mark and Maegan), Greg (Leanne, Crystal and Michelle), Christine (Jason), plus many relatives and friends. He will be loved forever and never forgotten.
This is only a short summary of our Dad’s life - we have many more special memories. He was a great man whose main loves in his life were his family and friends.
He was a compassionate, kind and caring man. He touched us all with his deep concern for family, friends and neighbours. He was quick to laugh and always had a friendly wave and smile for people on the street.
He was so proud of his family and our accomplishments and always supported us. He taught us many things, and one thing we’ll always remember is family comes first. This was how he lived his life.
Our world is not the same without you in it, but it’s better because you were.
A private family interment was held on Tuesday, Feb 6, 2007 in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial tea and luncheon in the Legion Hall from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Should friends so desire in Bill’s memory contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital.
