BUEHLER - Donald Henry Buehler, beloved husband of Dorothy of Lake Isle and formerly of Lloydminster and Provost, passed away in Edmonton on October 14, 2004 at the age of 62 years.
Don was born July 20, 1942 in Hemaruka, AB and began his lifelong career in grocery retail in 1959 in Coronation.
Don and Dorothy were married in 1961. Over the next few years they resided in Red Deer, Innisfail, Ponoka, Stettler and Lacombe where he trained as a meat cutter and managed several stores for J & P Foods.
In 1967 Don joined the IGA team and the family moved to Provost where they had enjoyable years filled with an abundant wealth of good times, good friends and good memories.
While in Provost, as always, Don gave freely of his time serving as a volunteer fire fighter, serving as a member of the United Church Board, and as a member of the Kinsmen Club.
In 1974 Don and Dorothy took the endeavour of their lives and relocated with their family to Lloydminster to become owners/ operators of Lloydminster IGA.
With determination and hard work Don and Dorothy confronted many challenges together, which resulted in a successful operation.
They retired in 1985.
While with IGA and in retirement they travelled extensively with trips to Spain, Canary Islands, Rome, Paris, London, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Hawaii many times, Australia, Florida and went south to Arizona for 13 winters.
Don was a member of the Lloydminster Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and volunteered with Credit Union for 17 years, serving as Board Member, President of Border Credit Union, Board Member and Chairman of Alberta Credit Union Central and on the Executive of Canadian Credit Union Central.
In 1996 Don and Dorothy moved to Lake Isle, Alberta where Don did the things he loved the most: golfing, manicuring lawns and flower gardens, endless building and renovation projects, as well as helping others resulting in many new friendships.
Besides his loving wife, Don is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Jerrold Hubman of Calgary, AB and Denise and Kevin Smith of Lloydminster, AB; three grandchildren, Mandy Smith, Trent Smith and Michelle Hubman.
He is also survived by his father of 91 years Arthur Buehler, two brothers Clinton (Jane), Walter (Elana) and one sister Judith (Alan) Brayer.
Don will also be lovingly remembered by numerous other family members, Dorothy’s family and many dear friends.
The family wish to thank Dr. C. Fuchs of Stony Plain, Dr. Archibald and Staff of Unit 61 and Dr. R. Fainsinger and the Palliative Care nurses at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Dr. D. Oneschuk and Staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital Palliative Care Unit and sister-in-law Sadie Caseley for the loving and compassionate care given.
Funeral services for Don Buehler were conducted at Grace United Church, Lloydminster, AB on Monday, October 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Graveside service was held at the Coronation AB, Cemetery on Tuesday October 19 at 1:00 pm.
