| BOYCHUK - After a brave 5-year struggle with ALS, Carol Ann (Dobson) Boychuk died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on April 4, 2004. Carol was born June 27, 1963. Her early years were spent in Stettler, then when she was eight, the family moved to Coronation where she lived until graduation from Coronation High School in 1981. Carol attended Camrose College where she met the love of her life, Brad Boychuk. After college and graduation from the University of Alberta, Carol and Brad were married in October 1986. They settled in Cold Lake where they both taught school. In 1990 their first child was born and Carol chose to be a home mom for him and for the three others who followed to make the family complete. Carol was always involved with activities in the community. She often took the kids to join activities at the library and took them regularly to Long-Term care to visit. She volunteered at Cold Lake Elementary School and served as President of the Cold Lake Community Play Group. Carol soon became a hockey mom. She served as Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the Church Choir. Singing was special for Carol. In High School she was a member of an award winning Central Alberta choir. She belonged to the Camrose College choir and to the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus. Carol loved to paint and longed for the time when she could paint all day. Her watercolors and sketches are treasured gifts. When painting was no longer an option Carols creative mind found release in the poems and stories she began to write with the aid of her helpers and lap top computer. Carol would light up a room with her wonderful smile and warm personality. Left in her love forever are husband, Brad; children, Bryan, Alex, Katie and Ivan; Dad and Mom (Don and Thelma Dobson); sisters, Barbara Dobson, Diane Grainer (Ben Dekker); and numerous other relatives and friends. A celebration of Carols life was held in the Lakeland Lutheran Church on April 8, 2004 with Rev. David Crombie of Trinity United Church officiating with Memento Funeral Chapel entrusted with arrangements for cremation and inurnment in Lakeview Cemetery in Cold Lake. The United Church Women and the Lutheran Church Women served refreshments. The Boychuk family wishes to express their thanks to all who helped so much during these last few years. It is Carols wish that those wishing to make a charitable contribution direct it to the Alberta ALS Society, 410, 11456 Jasper Ave, Edmonton, AB T5K 0M1. |
