She was predeceased by her husband Francis in 1997, sister Jenny Glasier, brothers Mart and Floris Looy, and parents Dick and Agatha Looy. In 1921 at the age of one year old, Lyda crossed the ocean with her parents and settled in the Veteran and Throne area where five brothers Cor, Dick, Mart, Floris, and Gerrit and two sisters Agatha and Jenny were born. The family moved to south of Coronation in 1940. In August of 1941, she married Francis Allard and led the life of a farm wife, mother, gardener, cow milker, chicken raiser, harvester, cook, canner, etc. until retiring to the town of Coronation in 1979. Although ever busy with farm life she somehow found time to enjoy some special interests. Her main hobby was baking and decorating cakes birthday, wedding, anniversary, shower, farewell, welcome, retirement cakes, etc. The cakes traveled to many small towns and cities all over the province. Lyda belonged to the Royal Purple and was the Honoured Royal Lady twice during her membership as well as holding many other positions. She was also a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed helping with Fair Days as well as bowling, ceramics, and the many bus tours her and Francis took to all parts of Canada and the United States. Lydas family, especially sons-in-law and grandchildren, always looked forward to her early crops of radishes and green onions, sugar cookies, apple pies, and the special Easter, Halloween, birthday, and Christmas cakes and cookies. She loved to play cards and games with them, enjoyed camping trips, and have knitted everyone at least a dozen dishcloths. Lyda always had a cheerful outlook on life, made friends easily, and couldnt say no to the many requests for doing this job or that. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by a great number of relatives and friends. Funeral services for Lyda Allard were held on Saturday, April 10, 2004 in the Trinity United Church of Coronation with Rev. Mervyn Penfound officiating. Songs sung by the choir included The Old Rugged Cross and Beyond the Sunset. A solo, Amazing Grace was performed by Marlene Gardiner accompanied by Linda Osetsky on the organ. A family burial followed the service as well as lunch for family and friends in the Elks Hall, served and provided by members of the Royal Purple, the Federal Friendship Club, and community friends.
