Michelle Wright comes to Coronation
by Lois Perepelitz

I have been surprised at how many big name stars have come to Coronation. There have been a few of them, ranging from Wilf Carter to Jeff Fenholt, the lead singer in the rock opera ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.
I think my favourite was when Michelle Wright came to town.

November 24, 1992
“Michelle Wright wins over audience
“Canada’s 1992 top female country vocalist Michelle Wright is not only Canada’s number one female voice in country music, but also exhibits the rare quality of being a down to earth big name star who knows how to relate to her audience.
“Michelle, travelling on a heavy schedule of one night stands in most of the major centers in Canada managed to fit in an evening in Coronation Tuesday, November 17 into her busy schedule.
“The brain child of the Consort graduating class, and having found that Michelle was available for a fall date, plans were set into motion to host the show in the Veteran Arena,
“The fall timing forced a change of location to a more climatized setting, resulting in the Consort class engaging the use of the Coronation school gymnasium.
“The Coronation school was deemed to be the largest indoor space available in the area which employed a stage of suitable size.
“The hosting of a big name star would appear to be quite a novelty in the area. It has been reported that an estimated 530 tickets were sold for what has to be considered a sell out performance.
“Consort School Principal. Larry Kjearsgaard said Monday November 23 that the concert has been deemed a “sell out and a great success” with the Consort Students Union realizing an estimated $7000 profit.”
The success of the venture due to the sell out of the $30 tickets has perked the interest of others in the community who see a potential in hosting big name entertainment throughout the summer months.”

I think what makes this my favourite is the way the two communities worked together. Working together like that made it possible for them to keep the price down where most could manage it, then they got the biggest place they could so that they could accommodate all of them.
Looking at the pictures makes me think that both Michelle Wright and the audience had a night they will never forget.
