I have been a little surprised at the amount of thefts that were reported.
There have been more than I thought there would be. I guess I still like to think that crime is something that happens in the big cities.
All kinds of things have been stolen over the years, vehicles, jewellery, cash, cigarettes and even fertilizer. These are all things that a thief can either use or sell, so a person can get an idea of the twisted reasoning behind the theft.
Then I came across this one.
April 6, 1993
Brownfield telephone booth stolen
The telephone booth in front of the Jaynor General Store in Brownfield was stolen on Sunday, March 28th at around 6:00 a.m.
Store owner Norman Klassen heard a truck start but by the time he got outside the phone booth was gone.
When asked to comment on the theft RCMP Corporal Griffiths theorized that someone may have stolen the telephone booth as a prank or wanted the booth as a novelty item for their rumpus room.
I am having a hard time trying to picture a décor that would need a telephone booth.
Maybe they had a Superman theme going and needed a phone booth for Superman to use as his dressing room?
Maybe the thief was physic and could see into the future where he saw the age of the cell phone was coming and the telephone booth would become obsolete, an antique, a rarity that would be worth money someday?
I have not found any reports of the phone booth being found, and this raises another question; how do you hide a telephone booth?
I am really curious about this one, so if anyone has any clues about this mystery I would really like to hear about them.
