Keyhole seems to have disappeared
by Lois Perepelitz

Keyhole has me puzzled again. He seems to have disappeared.
In 1941-1942 he went to the big city of Calgary, where he discovered he was not a city person and came back here and started writing his column again in 1943.
At this time his writing started to change. He still poked fun at people, but now it was mostly at himself.
He was still looking for a blonde, any blonde, and would joke about things like that.
He seemed to get more involved in the community and would write about things that were happening and encouraging people to support the events and plans that would keep the town growing.
Of course, if he thought something was not a very good idea for the town, he would let them know about it also.
I have been told that he was a very good musician and could sing as well. I had noticed his name a few times when the entertainment for an event would be mentioned.
One thing that really made me like him was the way he would root for the young people of the town; giving them credit when credit was due, and something else when it wasn’t.
He seemed to really be settling down and enjoying his life here in town. This is part of the reason that his leaving has me so puzzled.
In May of 1950 the local news reports R. A. Denison (alias Keyhole) going to Slocan, BC to visit C. Denison, and I just thought that his father had moved away from Lacombe after his mother passed away and this is who he was visiting.
The problem is, he doesn’t come back.
I am now going through the 1951 book and there has not been one mention of Keyhole, or Bob Denison, since May of 1950.
What happened? This town always had big farewell parties when someone moved away but there is no mention of him even thinking of leaving. Not even a good-bye to his readers.
Did he find his blonde?
Does he ever come back?
This part of his April 1949 column shows him rooting for the teens of the town.

“ To Cor-Teen Parents
I would like to speak to the parents of the members of the Cor-Teen Club.
I attended the Cor-Teen dance Saturday night and aided Tom Band in entertaining the kids. So did Mrs. Noonan and Mr. Bert Collins.
We, as grown ups, enjoyed ourselves immensely.
The orchestra played what the kids wanted. They stayed in the hall the whole evening. They behaved themselves perfectly.
This Cor-Teen club is going to do more for teen-agers than anything else or anyone in town ever dreamed of.
If your teen-ager hasn’t become a member don’t hesitate to give the child the O.K. Don’t worry over the Cor-Teens. They can handle themselves and they can handle a meeting and believe you me, parents, I’ll bet it’s a lot nicer knowing where your son or daughter is these nights. Give the Cor-Teens your support.”

I miss the dude.
