Talbot hall is rebuilt by May long weekend
by Lois Perepelitz

In February 1934 the Talbot hall burned down and there is a long, almost comical article describing just how that happened that I have saved for the history book.
Today I want to talk about how the hall got rebuilt. It was the February 8 issue that described the fire, in the March 8 issue they already had all the material needed to rebuild.
Then in the April 12 issue there was this little tidbit:
April 12, 1934
“Work on the Talbot hall is progressing speedily. Forty three helpers were on the job Wednesday, among whom were Rev. J. P. Berry, Mr. Paradise, Mr. MacIntosh and W. Lea from town.”
They didn’t build just any plain old hall either, the hall had “two dressing rooms, a full kitchen and even balconies. “ A splendid building indeed”, is how it was described. The hall was ready for business on the May long weekend.
Now whenever I drive out that way I get a picture in my mind of those men getting into those old trucks and cars and heading out to Talbot to get that hall built.
That is how they would get a hall built. A hall, a town, a community.
